It’s great to see the new SRM release - 1.3.1 - has recently dropped. Although a minor update, apparently adding only optimisations to the network connectivity check mechanism, this is a testament to the stability and resiliency of the SRM software in that dramatic changes are no longer required in order for their products to continue to operate well.

Those of us with Synology routers may cast our minds back to the late summer of 2022 when SRM 1.3.1 was released, adding much-wanted VLAN support for the older devices including the RT2600ac router. This update was unfortunately slightly problematic, resulting in an additional update - 1.3.1 - being pushed out on the same day.

As with all new major software releases there were still some ongoing issues and a few months later 1.3.1 was released to address some of them. Synology has dutifully provided regular updates since then, several of which were to address security vulnerabilities. These included 1.3.1 in in December 2022, 1.3.1 in March of the following year, and 1.3.1 in May.

Still there were some niggly issues that plagued some users and the company responded with another batch of bugfix updates - 1.3.1 in July 2023, 1.3.1 in September and a more significant bugfix release in November, version 1.3.1.

In 2024 there were still more excellent updates, with the team clearly very dedicated to quashing all of the bugs that were plaguing some of its users. This dedication to continuous delivery is very admirable. In total we got four updates in this year, 1.3.1 in March, 1.3.1 in September, 1.3.1 in October and finally 1.3.1 later that month.

There have only been two software updates in 2025 so far - 1.3.1 and 1.3.1 - but it’s great that the Synology team are working so hard to keep updating the software of products released several years ago, squashing bugs and ensuring discovered security vulnerabilities continue to be patched.

I feel very confident that this excellent support will continue long into the future.
